Meet Andrea

My passion for authenticity and living a whole-hearted life drew me to the field of Marriage and Family therapy. I believe relationships are the most powerful connections we encounter. Relationships can bring us great joy and happiness, as well as great pain and sorrow. We often get hurt in relationships, so it is in relationships where we heal. I am committed to helping people heal. My passion is helping people find deep joy in themselves, and in their relationships.

I treat a variety of issues:
• depression and anxiety
• trauma
• stress management
• relationship conflict (couple and family)
• grief and loss

  • I received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina, as well as a Master of Science in Marriage and Family therapy from Mercy University in Dobbs Ferry, NY.

I have completed post graduate training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Dr. Sue Johnson, director and founder of the International Center for Excellence in EFT (www.iceeft.com) has put her heart and soul into creating, researching and spreading the life changing benefits of EFT.

EFT is a data validated and research based approach to therapy, based in attachment theory. It is used with couples, families, and individuals. In our work together I will  focus on attachment, trauma, and emotion; as well as incorporating mindfulness skills and somatic practices to help integrate the mind, body, soul and spirit.

How I Can Help

  • Individual Therapy

I provide a safe, empathetic space to explore emotions, navigate life’s changes and challenges, and heal from pain, trauma, and loss. In our work together I hope to help you get to know yourself on a deeper level, connect more deeply with those you love, and live more fully in your “right now” life.

  • Couples Therapy

Every couple at some point experiences relationship conflict and challenges. Through the use of Emotionally Focused Therapy, I help couples develop an awareness of negative patterns and dynamics that get in the way of connecting. This helps couples strengthen their relationship, understand themselves and each other better, and increase closeness and communication.

In couples therapy I help with: Increasing trust and intimacy, changing patterns of chronic conflict and fighting, navigating the pain of infidelity, learn better ways of communicating, heal from traumatic experiences, deepen your sexual relationship.

  • Family Therapy

I offer family therapy for families needing support with improving communication and resolving conflicts with family relationships. Family therapy offers a way forward when addressing complex issues such as divorce, remarriage, parent-child conflicts, sibling rivalry, substance abuse, and mental health disorders. Family therapy can include all the family members or just some. By involving all family members in the therapeutic process, family therapy can promote understanding, empathy, and collaboration among family members. I also provide parent coaching for parents needing support in that area as well.

How I Work

I work with individuals and couples around self-esteem, communication, and parenting challenges. Starting therapy takes courage, and sessions are designed to feel safe, comfortable, and supportive. Together, we explore what may be blocking healing and connection, and move forward in a way that feels manageable and respectful of your pace.
